Moshtagh oil field is located at 23km away from Susangerd city in the region of northern Dezful and east of the Paydar oil field.
The first exploration well (Moshtagh–1) was drilled in 1962 on the northwestern culmination and is very close to the anticlinal apex. The main purpose of drilling this well was evaluation of Asmari and if possible, deeper horizons. Later exploration studies indicated that the top of Asmari formation is about 50 meters lower than the highest point of the peak.
The well Moshtagh-2 was drilled at 1982, in the highest point of the southeastern section of the field.
